ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Soon as I saw this palette on the Urban Decay Instagram account I had been counting down the days until it was released. As always the Americans got their hands on it first which meant checking the UD site daily from the 1st. I couldn't quite contain my excitement when it was posted through my letter box. As far as I know this palette is now sold out pretty much everywhere in the UK.

Also  I'm headed for Vancouver, Canada for a few days so expect a haul post from that too! Anyway can we just get onto how gorgeous this packaging is...

This palette features colourful artwork woven from flowers and butterflies with embossing and gloss creating a luxurious feel. It also includes several quotes from the film, Alice Through The Looking Glass.

"We're all mad here" "I'm not strange, weird, off, not crazy, my reality is just different from yours"
"I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I must have changed several times since then"

Lifting the doors reveals a three-dimensional butterfly that springs up and pulling the drawer reveals the shadows.

Trivia that I found out through the Urban Decay Instagram account is that the palette is arranged by characters. This is done via the columns with 4 shadows for each character. Left to right is - Alice, Mad Hatter,  Mirana (The White Queen), Iracebeth (The Red Queen) and Time (a creature who is part human part clock).

Alice - Looking Glass, Reflection, Dormouse and Matamorhosis

Mad Hatter - Hatter, Gone Mad, Paradox and Cake

Mirana - Lily, Duchess, Kingdom and Chessboard

Iracebeth - Heads Will Roll, Bandersnatch, Salazen Grum and Royal Flush

Time - Time, Dream On, Chromosphere and Mirror

Looking Glass is described as a pale pink, demi-matte shade, obviously this is a perfect neutral shade for the base, brow bone or used as a start of transition. I did have to layer it around 3 times to get the pigmentation that is shown in the swatch as it is such a pale shade. I always find paler shades that are similar to a white are less pigmented.

Reflection is described as a soft peach matte. This would also look beautiful as a transition or for more of a neutral look as a base.

Dormouse is a warm brown matte with floating gold micro-sparkle. As this shade has a bit of sparkle to it I would't bring it too high in the crease as it wouldn't look like a shadow. But as an all-over shade I think this is a beautiful warm brown.

Metamorphosis is a vibrant periwinkle blue with micro-sparkle. I imagine this either on the lid or for a pop of colour in the lower lash line. The periwinkle blue is a gorgeous shade which looks very flattering on pale skin. It is 100% an Alice colour, finishing the Alice row perfectly.

Hatter is described as a vibrant green with tonal micro-sparkle and very much feels like the perfect colour to start the Mad Hatter column off on. I also imagine this shade as a pop of colour in the lower lash line with either a natural eye look to bring some life, or like the Face Charts later in the post with contrasting colours.

Gone Mad is described as an aubergine with pink iridescent pearl. I have to admit I wasn't as excited about this swatch as the other shades. For me this is a slightly drab colour BUT would probably work well with a smokey eye.

Paradox is described as a vibrant orange with gold pearl. When I swatched this shade I was honestly blown away with how pigmented it was. Obviously this isn't an everyday kind of shade but I'm excited to use this as I really do love an orange shadow.

Cake is described as a saturated blue-pink with silver micro-shimmer. It's obviously a pink and definitely has a blue undertone to it making it a very cool-toned shade. But the silver micro-shimmer just gives it that much extra wow power.

Lily is described as an opal pink pearl. Oh my goodness, I can't even with this shade. Soon as I swiped it on my arm I couldn't believe it. The image doesn't do this shade justice as it's just such a pretty shadow. I saw a blue shimmer as soon as the sun hit it creating a gorgeous sheen. There's a Boomerang on my Instagram of this shade.

Duchess is described as a peach with pink shift and micro-sparkle. I feel like this shade would work perfectly with Reflection as a base.

Kingdom is described a copper-bronze pearl, I feel as though this shade is probably in many other palettes and very easy to dupe. Although it swatched nicely and the classic satin UD texture is there.

Chessboard is described a medium brown matte. This is a perfect transition colour for the crease.

Heads Will Roll is described a vibrant turquoise with gold micro-sparkle. Much like Hatter and Metamorphosis I think this shade would look perfect as a pop of colour in the lower lash line for Spring/ Summer.

Bandersnatch is described a deep teal matte. This is like nothing I have in my collection. I'm quite scared of a teal as it can go from young to old very quickly. BUT I'm being drawn to it being paired with Salazen Grum.

Salazen Grum is described as a metallic crimson. When I swatched this shade, much like Paradox, one swipe was enough. This shadow is so highly pigmented that you'll probably have to be careful when applying. It is a gorgeous colour and would look perfect with some brown transition shades to blend it out.

Royal Flush is described a pale beige shimmer. This is THE perfect inner corner highlight or brow bone highlight.

Time is described as a black-navy satin with soft iridescent micro-sparkle. I feel like you could create a BOMB smokey eye with this shadow as it's not a matte. It would look lovely in the outer corner blended out with a matte shade.

Dream On is described as a metallic purple-silver. This shadow was a lot chunkier than the rest as the glitter is very much there. Still it is a very pretty shade which doesn't remind me of anything I own.

Chronosphere is described as a metallic deep-bronze. I would wear this shade all over on its own with a winged liner. I feel like it is very versatile colour and can look very effortless.

Mirror is described as a grey-taupe satin. This shadow would work well with Time to blend out or create a lighter smokey eye. I feel like you could also use this colour as a liner when you don't want it to be so intensely black.

Incase these swatches scare you, Urban Decay have created these Face Charts as inspiration...

As ever, these Urban Decay shadows are just as gorgeous and silky. The packaging also makes it a beauty and must-have in my make up collection. Which is your favourite shade?

Thanks,
Laura x
